A few weeks ago, on a call with an operator evaluating becoming a Country Partner in their country, someone on the other end said “your app.” I corrected it in the same sentence: it is not an app, it is an operating system. That was not a marketing nuance. It is the distinction that explains what a Country Partner actually buys when it licenses uNobo Connect.
What an operating system does that an app does not
An app solves a function. It opens, does one thing, closes. An operating system does not solve a function: it manages different resources underneath (processor, memory, peripherals from different manufacturers) and exposes one common layer on top, so whoever builds something on it never has to think about the hardware each time. That is exactly what uNobo Connect does in an unattended 24h store. It does not sell a product. It runs an entire store, with no staff, with machines from different manufacturers underneath and one consistent buying experience on top.
What it manages underneath
uNobo Connect runs today on TCN, Vendlife, EasyTouch, Jofemar, Necta, and Bianchi. On machines with an MDB 4.x bus it plugs in through the bus. On Asian machines it plugs in through the manufacturer’s API or SDK and replaces the native vending app, leaving the screen showing the operator’s brand, its catalogue, its language. The hardware controller stays the manufacturer’s, because the dispensing mechanics are good and there is no reason to reinvent them. What uNobo does is what any operating system does with a new peripheral: give it a common interface, so no one above ever has to know which manufacturer sits below.
What it exposes on top
Above that hardware layer sits the part an operator actually notices. A consumer wallet with balance and traceability. Cross-machine combos within the same store. On-screen suggested selling, ecommerce-style rather than classic vending-style. Points-based loyalty. Biometric age verification integrating Veriff or, in the Spanish market, Bouncer Digital. A payment gateway that is agnostic (MONEI, Redsys, Nexi, Adyen, or whatever a given market requires), because an operator expanding into several countries cannot depend on a single gateway. And a per-machine licence, not a commission on each consumer sale, because the software vendor has to earn when the operator sells better, not simply when it sells more times.
Why the word matters to a Country Partner
When someone understands uNobo Connect as an app, they expect what you expect from an app: a function, occasional updates, something you can swap for a similar app without much cost. When they understand it as an operating system, they understand something else: that it runs the whole store, that it grows module by module without breaking what already works, and that switching operating systems mid-operation carries a real cost, the same cost any business faces when it swaps an operating system in production. That distinction changes the conversation with a Country Partner. They are not buying a feature. They are choosing the layer they will build their business on for years to come.
Four years in production, not in a demo
This is not a product thesis on paper. uNobo Connect has been running in real production for four years through uRetail S.L., the network’s pioneer Country Partner, in Spain. More than two hundred connected stores, around eight hundred machines, roughly one hundred and eighty operators. Aggregated uNobo Connect network data as of 28/06/2026. Anonymised metrics. Auditable under NDA. An operating system proves itself by running, not in a pitch deck. Four years without going down in real production is the only proof that matters.
Bonobo Services OÜ operates from Tallinn, with European sub-processors and no data transfer outside the EU. uRetail S.L. is today the only active Country Partner. Portugal, Italy, France, and Germany are the priority markets to add the next one, and the rest of Europe remains equally open, with no partner assigned.
If you run unattended retail in one of those markets and this way of understanding the platform fits you, let’s talk before you decide to build on something else. Write to info@bonoboservices.com or use the form at bonoboservices.com.
An app opens and closes. An operating system never turns off. That is why we call it one.
